The horn violin, or Stroh violin, is an instrument specific to the mountainous regions of Europe. The horn violin was patented in London in 1899 by John Matthias Augustus Stroh. He combined a violin with a horn that operated on the principle of a gramophone, at a time when modern sound amplification technology did not exist. This horn substitutes the resonating body of the classic violin.

The bridge rests on a resonating membrane that captures vibrations through a thin rod (the stick), which serves to conduct mechanical vibrations, and the resulting sound is amplified inside the trumpet. The instrument is particularly suitable for outdoor performances due to its powerful sound.

To continue the tradition, the HORA Reghin musical instrument factory, founded in 1951, has successfully taken over the construction of this musical instrument. Unlike classic horn violins, the tuning of the violin produced by Hora is achieved with a fine mechanism of the "worm - worm gear" type, which offers the performer very high precision in tuning.
