Meinl Artist Series Timbales 13" - Taku Hirano Add to cart: 15718

Taku Hirano wanted to add timbale accents and fills while playing the conga and multipercussion setups, without needing sticks. His Hand-Bale signature now makes this possible! The rim of the handball is uniquely crafted with one half in a traditional shape, while the other half of the rim is embedded under the shell. This opens the timbales to bongo-style hand techniques that effortlessly produce a distinctly clear timbale sound. Stick techniques are possible on the traditional portion of the drum. As Taku himself said, “the instrument sounds great using bongo technique so that, if you use one or two fingers to strike the edge with the same force you would play mounted bongo, you are able to effectively recreate the movement through the excellence of the timbale rim. No sticks? No problem! Cracked timbales fill at the fingertips. . .”
