Genelec 8030C - active studio monitor, 2-way, offering excellent sound reproduction, ideal for use in near-field monitoring environments such as mobile control rooms, small studios, or home studios and multimedia applications.

The cabinet features Minimum Diffraction Enclosure (MDE) technology and is made from aluminium with rounded corners, which eliminates distortions caused by corner diffraction. The tweeter's waveguide is based on Directivity Controlled Waveguide (DCW) technology, which helps create an even response and dispersion when listening on-axis or off-axis.

Additionally, the Intelligent Signal Sensing (ISS) technology automatically couples the speaker when an audio signal is detected and decouples it when no audio signal is detected, thus reducing power consumption to 0.5 W.

The sonic reference, refined!

Compared to the previous version, 8030B, the revised and improved 2017 model, 8030C manages to impress an ear familiar with GENELEC.

While 8030B had a power of 50 W/woofer and 30W/tweeter, 8030C has 50W/50W and this detail is noticeable. The variable digital crossover frequency is also improved. It sounds more detailed in the high range compared to version B. Don’t interpret this as having exaggerated highs, not at all! The linearity is maintained and two aspects increase: sound transparency and force (that punch). Also, compared to 8030B, the new model C has the waveguide (DCW) area around the tweeter slightly but visibly redesigned, to better direct the now 50 W of the high-frequency driver.

GENELEC sounds extremely clean and linear, but you must consider the main studio activity. This mid-sized model is excellent for voiceover production, post-production, and broadcast in general.

The main strength of GENELEC's series 8 is the accuracy with which it reproduces mids, the clarity of the auditory image, a wide soundstage, and a well-defined bass. 8030 is a fair and honest monitor, or as a good friend said, "If it sounds bad on GENELEC, it means you messed up somewhere."

Last but not least, I must mention the switches for sound correction based on room characteristics. The 8030C model has one extra, namely a desktop (tabletop) EQ. Here GENELEC shines again, with great flexibility for low-end correction depending on the situation. Also, 8030C comes with the volume and power button on the back, thus having a cleaner design.

In a small or medium room, without bass roll-off or bass tilt, you will be amazed at the deep and round lows these monitors produce. However, for music production, I also recommend a GENELEC 7040A subwoofer. This way, you will have a complete picture of the frequency spectrum for small to medium-sized rooms.

I advise you to listen to them and you will rediscover tracks you know, you will rediscover stereo and pure sound quality... or you will be surprised at how poorly certain recordings sound, and in this case, the rule stated by my friend applies. Also, you will be able to examine the evolution of some bands over the years, especially among Romanian artists.
