At first, I wasn't impressed... M40x sounded better than M70x... but they need to break in, for sure.... after two weeks, they opened up. They sound excellent across the board. I don't regret my choice. For those on a budget, I recommend M40x. After 8 years of almost daily use, they sound perfect even for the pickiest audiophiles. No rattling, no weird vibrations, nothing has failed, just changed the pads and that's it.
I've had the Audiotechnica M40x since 2016, and recently met the M70x, the bigger brother. The latter sounds more open in the highs and mids compared to the M40x, which are a bit more 'bass-heavy' and have fewer highs. Both sound fantastic, but with the M70x I add a little bass from the equalizer, and it sounds amazing. From bass that literally tickles your stomach to highs and mids, it has it all. So far, I haven't heard headphones that sound better. And the 'oldies' M40 have benefited from new pads, and the steel band covered is next...
This is the first pair of headphones with a budget of over 50 lei :)) When I paid for the headphones, I expected to be impressed, but since I bought them, I've started rediscovering songs that I thought I didn't like. They're worth every penny. I use them daily since I bought them.

The headphones sound very balanced, with a flat frequency range, without excessive emphasis on the bass, but their presence is felt enough. Rich soundstage and comfort for long wear. Although they have quite a bit of plastic in their construction, the headphones give a strong sense of durability and resistance to wear. I generally listen to rock and symphonic rock, or electronic music. I recommend them for this type of sound.
