I have a home studio, and the headphones are good for monitoring when recording. Less so for mixing and mastering.
The sound isolation isn't maximum, and the round shape is a bit annoying.
In the first hour it's less noticeable, but after that I feel the need to take them off.
But, as for quality-price, they are okay.

Studio headphones at consumer prices
Audio Technica ATH-M40x satisfy the quality-price ratio very well. It's a best buy product in terms of sound. I love the audio quality, whether we're talking about sound in video editing (I edit in Davinci Resolve and they are just right!), or DJ-ing. I've connected them to both a Denon DN-X100 mixer and a Yamaha R-S202D amplifier, and the sound is really good.
You can mix comfortably with them in a smaller underground club, or generally at an underground event, with a niche audience, techno, house, psychedelic, dnb music, etc. Now, at a mainstream event where there's a lot of noise, many decibels, I don't know if they can handle it. For such events, there are Sennheiser HD-25II, or better ones.
The sound of ATH-M40x doesn't fall into the hi-end segment, but it sounds correct for the segment it belongs to!
They reproduce the bass as the music producer intended when producing the music in the studio, and the mids and highs are very well balanced. We're not talking about an artificial bass boost meant to blow your head off, that bass which overshadows the highs and mids, we're talking about a correctly reproduced bass. There is a transparency in the sound, very pleasant to the auditory sense!
Obviously, they are not the best headphones I've listened to, because they are not intended for audiophiles, but if you are realistic, have appropriate expectations, and have a trained ear, these headphones are exactly what you need!
The construction seems solid, I hope they will be reliable in the future!
One downside would be that your ears sweat in the summer when you use them, but generally, that's what happens with over-ear headphones that have faux leather.

The sound quality is excellent. The cables, the support for keeping them, and the box. A suggestion for the manufacturer would be regarding the synthetic leather on the ear pads. It should be natural leather. Even if it would increase the price, it would be wonderful. Because it wouldn't peel off anymore.

For me, they are exactly what I need for editing, mixing music in my mini studio.
They bother a bit after a few hours of use, but that can be a good thing, it makes you take breaks when you forget about yourself.
They look good and the finishes are well executed.

They are very well-made headphones. The sound quality is exceptional, they are just like the M50x - I didn't notice any difference between the m40x and m50x. At the time of purchase, the price here was the best.
I recommend this model if you want to save some money in terms of price quality.

I bought these headphones and being skeptical by nature, I didn't think I would experience such amazing audio with these headphones. I also tried the 50x and 60x models but I liked these the most and found them to be the most balanced (personal opinion).

This is one of the best purchases I've made in recent years. I'm extremely satisfied with the quality and performance of these headphones. I use them for mixing and mastering (just as a hobby). From the moment I started using them, I realized they are exactly what I need to drastically improve the sound quality and mixes. The sound is flat and exceptionally clear and balanced across all frequencies (low, mid, and high). The bass is strong but not overwhelming, without covering or interfering with the other frequencies. They are excellent for those who want to mix and master, but they're also great for normal listening, offering a robust sound of superior quality at a more than reasonable price. I recommend 100%.

Very good, with a few minor issues
The headphones are very good and I'll explain why I deducted one star. They are not exactly over-ear and I have medium to small ears, for large ears I think they would be uncomfortable. After 1-2 hours, you need a break because they become uncomfortable. In comparison, Sennheiser has earpads with a much larger diameter, you can see it in the pictures if you don't have them at home, they cover the ear from the outside and can be worn all day. It's a shame that Soundcreation doesn't import compatible, 3rd party pads with a larger diameter, it would also improve the sound. They are not as linear as many comments say, I don't know what they compared them to. Fortunately, it can be corrected with EQ. I recommend you to look at the frequency response of the M40x on test sites and adjust a bit in the areas (-)100-150hz, (-)1-2khz, (+)3.5-4.5khz and (-)>8khz, especially if you use them for movies, film music or classical. Without EQ, some instruments, like the cello, won't sound good or correct. I wouldn't like to use the M40x without EQ, but with EQ I like them a lot.

Great headphones
Awesome headphones, balanced and flat sound, a bit tight for us with big head :-) It's been a couple of months now that I've purchased them and I primarily use them for patch creation on the keyboards and I can really hear even the sample imperfections on factory patches. The price here was great so I'm very pleased with my purchase.

Entry level headphones for music lovers (audiofiles)
Whether you're passionate or not, you'll love these headphones. There are many reviews on YouTube, but until you listen to them, you don't realize how good they sound.
I recently purchased the ath-m50x thinking there would be a major difference in sound (I was considering giving 40x to a friend) and honestly, I don't want to part with 40x; they have better sound. 40x has less bass but you can feel it, the mids are clearly more complete, almost flat, and they don't lack highs (I would say they are a bit pronounced). 50x has deeper bass in the low frequencies, the mids are present too, and the highs are almost unpleasant. I would say 50x sounds better only as all-purpose headphones - playing DJ (you need bass and higher highs), listening on the street, and even sitting on the couch or at the desk if you listen to EDM, and they have an extra cable worth about 70 lei, with larger and more comfortable cups. To go back, I prefer 40x for listening to music at home or at the office if you like to switch from one genre to another (you won't get a headache from overly pronounced bass or shrill highs), I would have liked larger cups because I have bigger ears and after listening for over an hour, they start to bother me a bit (I feel like moving them, I rub my ears).
If everyone praises 50x, I tell you to get 40x; they are cheaper and sound better if you don't have the funds and want to move from the ordinary to a decent tool. If you get an equalizer program, you can easily make them sound like the more pronounced bass similar to 50x if you're a basshead. But still, if you like the major thumps from Skullcandy or Beats, these are not for you, get 50x.
I highly recommend, ath-m40x made me want to buy more headphones. I caught the "bug", you love music with them. Worth the money!

Top headphones at a great price
I bought these headphones almost a year ago, I got them to listen to music (even though they are for studio use) and I am super satisfied with these headphones, clear sound, perfect bass, neither weak nor ear-piercing (that torturous bass), I use an Olympus2 DAC and these headphones sound IMPECCABLE and at maximum volume they don’t distort no matter how strong the bass is and from the equalizer, you can listen to any genre of music. The only downside, in my opinion, is that after a longer time they become uncomfortable, they are too heavy.

clear, clean, neutral sound on bass, mids, highs, exactly what I was looking for, meaning it doesn't excel in any of the three and at a very reasonable price. I compared it with other headphones, about 20 models from Philips, Pioneer, Sony, Bose, and others, and I believe it's the best choice. Spending over 1000 lei and aside from noise canceling, it doesn't have anything extra... I think I made a good choice. I even compared it with Bluedio Victory, headphones with 12 speakers, a top product with many recommendations and praises and at a higher price... but... it doesn't sound as clear, clean... conclusion... impeccable headphones.

I was undecided between choosing the Audio-Technica M30x and M40x headphones, but after trying them in a store in the country, I realized that the M40x are visibly better than the M30x in the sense that the M30x sound sharper while the M40x sound fuller, so the difference of 2000 Hz is really noticeable and they are also very comfortable. So, anyone who truly wants quality can go for the M40x without doubts. As for the Soundcreation team, only words of praise, despite their very busy schedule, they are true professionals and if I'm not mistaken, the best in the country!! Bravo, Soundcreation !!

I'm not an expert in the field, you can watch detailed reviews on YouTube for an informed opinion. They have a full and clear sound; listening to familiar songs, I hear sounds I didn't notice before. They don't excel in bass (for that, there are consumer brands like Beats), but they excel in reproducing the entire range of frequencies.

The sound quality is good to very good. For an exceptional listening experience, it's advisable to have a source (amplifier). perfect allrounder
The M40x headphones seem to me to be very good allrounder headphones. They are easy to drive; they sound really good with a decent volume straight from the Macbook Pro. They are relatively compact and comfortable enough. However, you start to sweat a bit after about an hour with them.
The sound is perfect for casual listening across almost all music genres (although for classical music, open-back headphones would be much better) and for movies. They have a slightly emphasized bass, but well-controlled and not boomy. The mids are a bit recessed and the highs are slightly forward. Very clear and detailed, but not cold or analytical.

They are wonderful. I got them especially to get rid of the noise in the office (they're good at that, but don't excel with music off), but they perform fabulously when playing music. This on an integrated sound card.

Hello,
I expected more from these headphones. Probably if I hadn't compared them to the Beyerdynamic DT-150 (https://www.soundcreation.eu/casti-audio-profesionale-pentru-monitorizare-sau-mixaj-cid47_3234/beyerdynamic-dt-150-id16463.html) I would have been more satisfied.
I can say they have a slight distortion in the mid-high frequency range and the stereo image doesn't seem as defined compared to the other headphones. I'm using them on a Behringer Powerplay Pro-8 headphone amplifier.
Very satisfied with Soundcreation's services.

I bought them more for monitoring than for listening, but that doesn't mean the listening experience is lacking... Exceptional sound, very balanced in lows and highs. Worth the money... I recommend it.

Unfortunately, I can only compare these to lower quality headphones, but these fully satisfy me. They are very comfortable. The cable has a thick coating, it's not fragile. There is a big difference in sound on the PC when adding a dedicated sound card compared to an onboard sound chip. (I used a Xonar U1 via USB). All the best!

Clear, balanced sound
Very good "balanced" sound, but not for bass-lovers... the sound doesn't come "from the middle of your head" but "in your ears". It's not tiring at all, I haven't felt this with other headphones, maybe because I haven't had quality headphones before.
The bass, highs, and mids are brought exactly where they need to be, it doesn't just focus on a certain frequency range, the sound is very balanced...
Indeed, as I've read on other forums, after a while you feel like your ears are getting warm, but you get used to it...
They squeeze and rotate very easily (the cups), you have to adjust them by hand every time you put them on your head, but obviously, that's not a problem...
