In September of this year, Steinberg Media Technologies announced the release of the new generation of audio production software, Cubase. Bringing with it the new format for plug-ins - VST3, Cubase 4 and Cubase Studio 4 include a whole range of additional features compared to previous generations, to ease users' work, such as:
- Universal SoundFrame sound manager - helps users organize their audio, video, and project files, patches for hardware and software synthesizers, track presets, and much more
- Control Room - helps integrate Cubase with analog monitoring environments, with up to 4 separate mixes for monitoring, integration of external audio inputs, the ability to select acoustic spaces, talkback, etc.
- the introduction of a new set of VST3 plug-ins: StudioEQ, Cloner, ModMachine, AmpSimulator, guitar tuner, multiband compression, and others
- 3 new VSTis - the synthesizers Prologue, Spector, and Mystic, as well as the sample player HALion One, which contains hundreds of new instruments based on Yamaha Motif waveforms
- an improved user interface to assist navigation; configurable channel strip and track inspector; the mixer has been added with a series of new functions
- the new Instrument Track class automatically combines MIDI and plug-in automation, making it easier to work with VST instruments
- compatible with both Windows platforms and Mac OSX Universal Binary

Cubase 4 and Cubase Studio 4 hit the stores in October of this year.
