The P90 pickups are of a different nature. The Vintage P90™ from DiMarzio is a recreation of the single-coil Gibson from the late '50s, with all the degree of pain that makes a P90 pickup special.
The Vintage P90™ from DiMarzio starts with our dual calibrated Alnico 5 magnets and is wrapped on a vintage winding machine specially designed by DiMarzio. This machine has been used to create the correct winding profile and frequency response, and the winding process is unique. We use vintage tape, single conductor braided connecting wire, and uncovered coils.
This design gives the Vintage P90™ the bright midrange and warmth of a vintage Les Paul® from the '50s. The chords have a lovely harmonic bloom, and the single notes are glassy with an initial smoothness.
P90s have found their way into classic recordings from the '60s and '70s on everything from the Beatles to Leslie West and Mountain.
