In 1994 Howard and Robert Silagy create Planet Waves, a small guitar strap manufacturing company, in Hicksville New York. Their strategy was simple: to make durable straps from quality materials and people would buy them. In 1998 D'Addario & Company buys Planet Waves adding it to its family of brands in the musical accessories field. Planet Waves' first major undertaking after being acquired by D'Addario was the design and production of a line of cables that would be good signal transmitters eliminating tonal variations.
