Rakataks are very similar in shape to Maracas. However, unlike the traditional African rattles, the Rakataks are open at the top. There is a slit in the tube-like body of the Rakatak, which serves to produce the sound. The rakatak's tube-shaped body contains a movable beater that strikes both sides of the tube when the instrument is moved, producing the characteristic tone of the instrument, which is reminiscent of the patter of a horse. Depending on the diameter of the body, brighter or deeper tones are produced when it is struck. These can be recognized in our Rakatak assortment by the color of the mallet: yellow sounds the highest, brown the lowest. The instrument set with all five Rakataks with their simple handling encourages players to use them in various ways.
