Rode VideoMic Rycote - A condenser shotgun microphone designed for use with entry-level video cameras and personal audio recorders. The integrated Rycote Lyre shock mount isolates the VideoMic capsule and its electronic components from the metal shoe mount, providing optimal protection against external physical factors that can cause unwanted noise and vibrations. Constructed from a single piece of durable thermoplastic material, the Lyre shock mount ensures superior acoustic suspension compared to traditional elastic solutions and a much more robust design. Includes a 3/8" threaded adapter for mounting on a tripod or telescopic arm.
Due to its super-cardioid polar pattern, the VideoMic becomes extremely directional, focusing on the subject in front of the camera and minimizing any surrounding sounds. In addition to the native frequency response of 40 - 20,000 Hz of the microphone, there is also a selectable high-pass filter at 80Hz which will prevent the recording of extremely low noise, such as that found in air conditioning units and traffic noise, while the two selectable -10dB and -20dB (or PAD) level attenuators in the battery compartment allow for recording loud sound sources.

It's definitely worth the money! I've recorded with it in the park or even at the university in the passage and I can say I'm amazed at what it can pick up even from a distance! The only problem is the mounting support if you have a Sony camera...
