PAF Pro® was created when intense playing began to take off, and high-gain amplifiers and rack systems became popular. There was a need for a pickup that combined plenty of presence and "cut" with an open PAF® atmosphere. The transparency of the sound allows the PAF Pro® model to handle heavy processing, where darker-sounding pickups get lost in the mud of the effects chain. The low notes have both snap and chunk, and there is a peak in the midrange that gives the pickup a subtle vocal "aw" sound, like a wah-wah pedal turned off in the middle. The high response is tuned to produce highs that stand out without becoming brittle. PAF Pro® makes a remarkable neck pickup in almost any guitar and is an exceptional bridge pickup when high power is not required.
