Audiolab 6000A - integrated amplifier with DAC, Bluetooth that utilises Class A/B amplification, with a power of 50W per channel at 8 ohms. Beyond Expectations

I needed an upgrade in my system, mainly requested by the new CD from Musical Fidelity M3CD whose signal seemed a bit 'choked' by the Marantz PM6006, otherwise an excellent amp.

The first option was of course the Musical Fidelity M2s but the semiconductor crisis made it impossible to find.

I tried the Rotel A14 but returned it: dry, flat sound, even though extremely detailed.

Due to the aforementioned crisis, I’m in a hurry to make a decision, considering CXA 60, 61, even 80, Rega Elex-R (all in stock) but I’m also looking at Audiolab even though I wasn’t really considering it. I didn’t like the look or the small dimensions compared to the more massive M3 CD. However, I’m convinced by YT through the channel The Audiophile Man and I order it.

Straight out of the box, without break-in, the sound is clearly more detailed even though the bass doesn’t shake the floor like the PM6006 did. After break-in, however, things change, the sound becomes absolutely wonderful. It’s not necessarily the balance between frequencies that makes it so (as most reviews say) but simply how it is: clean voices, full bass, silky highs, all in balance. Compared to the PM6006, the resolution, detail are at another level. The same goes for the balance between frequencies. Now I’m rediscovering my CDs, the ones I barely listened to occasionally sound incredible now. I’m using the analog input, not the digital one, although I’ve also installed a coax cable. Oh, my reservations about the size/look have been completely shattered: in reality, it looks fabulous and yes, it’s very well assembled.

The speakers are KEF Q350, the power cables are Isotek, the RCA is Chord Shawline, the coax is Chord Clearway, and the speaker cable is Chord Rumour.

In conclusion, an absolutely exceptional amp for the price asked, it has totally exceeded my expectations.
