Waldorf Streichfett, a digital synthesizer module dedicated to the synthesis of string instrument sounds, specifically for the '70s-'80s "strings" sound.

It is equipped with two generator sections:

  • polyphonic tones
  • monophonic tones for solo

In addition to the effects module that offers a phaser or reverb and a creative animator effect, the Ensemble button thickens and "greases" the tone in a way not found in standard synthesizers.
The solo section includes presets named Bass, E-Piano, and Clavi, which have little in common with their names, similar to the emulators of the past, but they have a more percussive character that complements the strings section well.
The memory section allows storing settings in 4 x 3 = 12 locations for presets.

Specifications
  • the polyphonic section includes tones named: Violin, Viola, Cello, Brass, Organ, and Choir
  • optional additional layer triggerable with a viola or violin tone of choice
  • typical string instrument wrap generator with Crescendo and Release
  • dedicated tremolo for the solo section
  • split or layering for the solo section
  • balance potentiometer for adjusting the ratio between the two sections
  • octave switch with positions (Base/Both/8va)
  • MIDI in/out
  • stereo output
  • headphone output
  • USB MIDI

Waldorf Streichfett

As a fan of the electronic sounds of the '70s and '80s, used by representatives of the Berlin School of electronic music in many memorable musical productions (what extraordinary times...), I discovered the Waldorf Streichfett module over a year ago, equipped with a rich enough sound palette that fits my preferences. It took me some time to gather information and then I decided. Having used the instrument for about a month, I can't say I made a mistake buying it. It always surprises me and is a faithful companion on my personal musical 'journeys'. It sounds better than it does in the clips online... I use it alternately with Arturia BeatStep and KeyStep controllers. The sounds are not recommended for every music genre, so it's good to make the purchase decision carefully. Read the manual, reviews, watch video clips, and decide. From my side, Waldorf Streichfett gets top marks. The finish quality seems good to me. However, I add that the potentiometers seem a bit unstable, but if you handle them carefully, the device will generate a sound universe that will delight you for many years to come. The price is quite attractive. I don't know of any other similar device that generates such sounds. About the service provided by SoundCreation, I have only good words.
