The Wharfedale company was founded in 1932 by Gilbert Briggs, who developed the first speakers in the basement of his home in Ilkley, southern England. Mr. Briggs is recognized as a pioneer in the development of Hi-Fi speakers and is renowned for his dedication to achieving the most faithful and good sound possible. In 1945, Wharfedale developed the first 2-way loudspeaker, which had a 10" tweeter and a crossover that required at least two adult men to handle due to its weight; nevertheless, that speaker is the ancestor of almost all existing speakers today.
Wharfedale has always been at the forefront of developing high-performance loudspeakers and is considered one of the most creative and technically advanced manufacturers. The best example is the Diamond series of Hi-Fi speakers, which was introduced 20 years ago; the speakers in this series are recognized as classic and high-performance Hi-Fi equipment. The current generation of Diamond 10 continues the tradition of the series in terms of quality and is expanded with new, evolving technologies, while also being very affordable in price, even unique in its price range.
