The second H1e

This is the second H1e I'm buying for another setup (ambient recordings with binaurals equipped with AOM5024). H1e is superior to the previous model (I also have two H1n so I could compare them); the risk of ruining a recording due to unexpected sound level spikes is very low (even zero if the peak doesn't exceed 120dB), recording can be initiated quickly, and once the buttons are locked, any accidental interruption is avoided (with the old model, there was a risk of touching and changing the volume adjustment during recording). The preamps have low noise and if you record with external electret capsules, the signal-to-noise ratio practically depends only on them. The built-in microphones are noisier, but at a short distance, it doesn't matter. I don't like the rubber buttons and the petty display, but it's not a tragedy. Soundcreation delivered quickly and the price was very good – thank you!

Perfect recordings even in imperfect conditions

An excellent, affordable recorder that greatly simplifies capturing sound when you have no control over it. Rain with thunder, city sounds, concerts, interviews, and VO (with deadcat), you can record anything with this little toy. Compared to the H1n, the self-noise of the microphones is about 3dB higher (but they seem more linear), but for interviews and VO, it doesn't matter. And for ambient recordings where it might count, it's anyway preferable to use omni capsules (e.g. AOM5024) connected via the 3.5mm jack. In this case, you might be interested in the noise of the preamps and D/A conversion; compared to the H1n, this is clearly lower, I measured a difference of about 12dB with Rg=0ohms and 1.5dB with Rg=1.6k (8k II 2k internal; Rg noise dominates). I used a 440Hz tone and the H1n had the gain setting at position 8 and indicated -6dB on the VU. In short, you can be sure that if you use external electret capsules (lavaliers, etc.), the self-noise of the H1e will not affect the final S/N ratio. I was bothered by the small display, but it's compensated by the sound description of the operations and settings. The price was very good and I received the recorder quickly - thank you!
