The analog synthesizer module, Waldorf Pulse 2 is the successor to the rack-mountable monophonic synthesizers Pulse and Pulse+.
Pulse 2 brings to the 21st century exactly what enthusiasts expect: three analog oscillators coexisting in perfect harmony with a newly designed VCF filter. It now offers a 12dB high-pass mode and a band-pass mode in addition to the low-pass filtering mode at 24dB/12dB. The paraphonic and unison behaviour modes allow for chords of up to 8 notes, a feature also found in the new Waldorf Rocket synthesizer.
The analog architecture is also reflected in its connectivity: Pulse 2 features a CV Out (supporting both the V/octave and Hz/V standards) and a Gate Out (compatible with V-Trigger and S-Trigger). These capabilities pave the way for interconnecting with a multitude of vintage synthesizers: Pulse 2 can be viewed as an interface between a MIDI DAW and synthesizers that did not yet support the MIDI standard. Alternatively, the flexible arpeggiator in Pulse 2 can control an older sound source.
In addition to the expected features of an analog synth, such as PWM modulation and hard sync, here we find an Alternating Pulsewidth Modulation, which provides a dense PWM sound without reducing the perceived sound volume. Another new function is the "XOR Osc" mode, which performs a binary XOR combination between two PWM oscillators with two distinct output levels, enabling the creation of an unharmonic spectrum, unprecedented in instruments other than the original Pulse.
