Philips

Royal Philips Electronics is a Dutch multinational company specializing in electronic products. It was founded in 1891 in Eindhoven by Gerard Philips, a cousin of Karl Marx's mother. The first products were light bulbs and other electronic equipment. Now Philips is one of the largest companies in the world. In 2009, it had sales of 23.18 billion euros and employs 123,800 people in over 60 countries. It has been involved, among other things, in the invention of the audio cassette, the CD, the DVD, and recently the Blu-Ray technology.
