The choice primarily depends on the form: handheld microphone for stage vocals; lavalier or clip type for presentations, interviews, and filming; headset for instructors and artists who move around a lot.

The second choice is the technology: UHF systems (radio frequency with channel coordination) are the standard for stage and large events where reliability matters; 2.4 GHz digital systems, like clip types for filming, are easier to use (no channel scanning) and suitable for video and podcast content. “Single” systems have one microphone/transmitter; “dual” systems allow for two speakers simultaneously.
