A wireless microphone eliminates the cable between the microphone and mixer or camera, transmitting the signal via radio frequency (UHF) or digital, on the 2.4 GHz band. The choice primarily depends on the form: handheld microphone for stage vocals; lavalier or clip type for presentations, interviews, and filming; headset for instructors and artists who move around a lot.

The second choice is the technology: UHF systems (radio frequency with channel coordination) are the standard for stage and large events where reliability matters; 2.4 GHz digital systems, like clip types for filming, are easier to use (no channel scanning) and suitable for video and podcast content. “Single” systems have one microphone/transmitter; “dual” systems allow for two speakers simultaneously.
