KSM42 does not have a pad switch or low-cut filter because it has been meticulously designed for the human voice in controlled environments. Shure engineers chose to invest more time in developing the dual diaphragm capsule to provide superior proximity control and a wide 'sweet spot' with extremely consistent quality below 1000 Hz. With a maximum SPL of 139 dB and a progressive roll-off at low frequencies, the pad settings and filters have become redundant.
