A digital piano is the electronic piano variant designed as a piece of furniture: it has a dedicated stand and usually a three-pedal unit, just like a classic acoustic piano — unlike stage digital pianos, which are compact and lack a fixed stand. It is the right choice if you want the look and study position of a real piano, without the weight, maintenance, or tuning of an acoustic instrument.
When choosing, the keys are the most important: look for 88 keys with weighted action (“hammer action”), which mimic the feel of an acoustic piano's keys — models with unweighted keys are only suitable for beginners. Also check the number of voices/sounds available and the headphone jack, useful for practicing without disturbing the rest of the household.
