A bass overdrive that changes the game. The power of Abyss lies in its mixing controls: a separate volume for the original amplifier tone and another for adding a strong, overdriven sound. Unlike overdrives with a simple mixing knob, the Dirty and Clean channels allow you to perfectly shape your tone, adding just the right amount of clean vs overdrive signal. Using bi-amp technology with two discrete circuits, Abyss splits the signal into two paths. One of them preserves your dynamics and colour, while the other adds an exaggerated sound with fullness and power. As the two circuits reconnect, the result is your original sound becoming stronger, fuller, and richer. Like all KHDK pedals, Abyss is manufactured and quality tested in Kentucky, USA.
Controls
DIRTY controls the amount of distorted signal in your tone.
CLEAN controls the original sound and adds only volume, without changing anything.
TREBLE is a passive low-pass filter with a natural sound. It cuts high end and provides a wide range of frequencies. Turned clockwise, it becomes raw, aggressive, and cutting. Turned counterclockwise, it reduces the highs for a softer, warmer tone.
LO/HI is directly linked to gain. The lo setting provides a warm, tube-like boost and a subtle crunchy overdrive, excellent for rhythmic playing. The hi setting adds saturation, sustain, low-end, and compression. This setting is recommended for a stronger rhythm or soloing.
GAIN sets the preamplifier gain, affecting the amount of compression and sustain.
Power
Abyss is powered by a single 9V battery. You can access the battery connection by unscrewing the bottom plate of the pedal housing. Alternatively, connect a 9V DC external power supply (negative centre).
