Almost all beginner clarinetists choose the Boehm system — it is the international standard and the easiest to find in music lessons; the German system (Oehler) remains specific to Central European professional instruments. The ABS resin body is the right choice for a beginner student: it withstands temperature and humidity variations well, unlike the more maintenance-demanding grenadilla wood, which has a warmer sound preferred by advanced players. Most school clarinets are in Bb — clarinets in Eb (smaller and sharper) or A appear at orchestral or conservatory level.
