Unlike the PAD-8 Octapad, which was a MIDI controller, the SPD-30 has its own sound generator. In total, there are 50 percussion kits in the SPD-30, from various musical styles. The sounds can be customised and then saved. With the SPD-30 Octapad, we can have hundreds of percussion instruments at our fingertips.
With the Looper in the SPD-30, musical phrases can be captured and then played back/triggered instantly via the pads. A total of 50 musical phrases can be saved. Each musical phrase can consist of 3 layers. These loops can also be saved to a USB stick.
The SPD-30 Octapad features state-of-the-art triggers, and the pads are well isolated from each other, so the resonance from one pad does not affect the others (no other drums are heard from self-triggering due to vibration). An additional 4 pads with dual sensors (dual-trigger) and a hi-hat controller can be connected to create a small drum set. Compatible pads include: Roland KD / PD / PDX / CY, as well as acoustic drum triggers from the RT series.
