I bought the Hohner Marine Band Crossover with 3 years of experience (so a beginner) and after several Golden Melodies (my favorite), a Special 20 (ideal for beginners), a Rocket (with pretty large holes), a Marine Band de Luxe (a gem for blues players) and a few other harps from different brands that I don't want to remember.
First of all, a mention for Soundcreation. I ordered the harmonica on the weekend, on Monday morning I was contacted by a company representative, during Monday the shipment was made, and on Tuesday evening I received the harmonica in a super shockproof packaging. I tried it and the satisfaction was complete.
It's a harmonica with a quick response, very well tuned. The tuning is of the COMPROMISED TUNING type, meaning a compromise between JUST INTONATION, specific for blues (Marine Band range), and EQUAL TEMPERAMENT, ideal for jazz, classical (Golden Melody), which makes it the most versatile harmonica in the Hohner lineup, suitable for all musical genres. And the mouthpiece is almost identical to that of the Marine Band de Luxe and Golden Melody.
It is perfectly compatible in construction with the other components of the Marine Band range. Due to its small size, it is ideal for those with delicate hands, while I personally prefer the more generous dimensions and super ergonomic shape of a Golden Melody. The body (reed plate) is made of triple lacquered bamboo, which gives it a higher sound than the classic and de Luxe Marine Band and provides increased protection against moisture. Beginners who can afford to pay almost double the price of the heroic Special 20 will find it ideal for their improvement as musicians.
In the end, I recommend it to everyone, it won't disappoint anyone.
