The TT 104 timpani mallet has a felt head with a diameter of approx. 36 millimeters. The core is made of cork and the felt is carefully sewn by hand. The shaft is made of Tonkin. These particularly thick-walled bamboo sticks grow extremely straight and the typical knots are very far apart, which makes this material particularly suitable for mallet production. Tonkin is also harder and more stable than other types of bamboo, but still light.
