I bought this mixer for occasional mixing, out of passion for electronic music. I tested it on a powerful soundsystem, it's really nice. It sounds better than I expected. Great feel on the buttons & knobs... one downside from Pioneer: you can't turn off the Smart Fader button. I'm probably going to 3D print a cover to hide it...
I saw one in the showroom and it has nothing to do with what Pioneer was making a few years ago. I own a Pioneer DDJ-SR, which is cheaper than this console, also second-hand. The differences are that the old one is entirely made of durable metal and is larger, a serious console, while the DDJ 400 feels like a toy, all plastic. The square buttons at the bottom have buttons, not touch-sensitive like my old one.
If you're looking for something quality, better get an older second-hand one.
If you're looking for something small, light, portable, heavily plastic, DDJ 400.
