The AD/DA conversion is extremely faithful, PCM/DSD 768 kHz. It features both balanced and unbalanced analog inputs and outputs, 2 headphone outputs, SteadyClock III, 4-stage hardware in/out level control, DSP processing, external power supply, Class Compliant USB compatibility, sample rate up to 768 kHz, DSD playback and recording (256 / 11.2 MHz).
The ADI-2 Pro FS R BE includes two servo-balanced inputs on combo XLR/TRS, two separate balanced and unbalanced outputs on XLR and TS, two extremely powerful stereo outputs for headphones on the front panel, optical SPDIF input/output that also understands ADAT, coaxial SPDIF (RCA) and AES input/output (XLR) with an included cable. This range of input and output options offers superior quality and flexible connectivity for those who do not compromise. The USB 2.0 port is fully Class Compliant (UAC 2) for connection with compatible iOS devices and for firmware updates. It includes a power supply with a locking connector and can be powered by batteries, for mobile applications, but also to benefit from galvanically isolated housing. As an audio interface, the ADI-2 Pro FS R BE offers a stereo mode (2i2o) and a multichannel mode (6i8o). Compatibility with OSX is plug and play, while Windows compatibility is driver-based.
Aiming for an absolutely reference sound, the ADI-2 Pro FS R BE is built with extreme attention to detail. The copper-based PCB of considerable thickness has a 10-layer design, with the headphone amplifier circuit completely separated. The internal power stages and precise regulators have an extremely low noise design, so as not to alter the sound. The selected SoundPlus op-amps maintain the highest SNR and the lowest THD. The entire analog circuit is completely symmetrical and balanced and DC coupled. The only capacitors in the entire signal chain are those providing DC protection at the input jacks and have been carefully selected to avoid any sonic impact.
The 4-channel AD converter supporting a sample rate of 786 kHz and DSD recording is used in dual mono, with an improved signal-to-noise ratio of 3dB. For 2 separate stereo outputs, 2 premium DACs are used. Internal processing such as EQ, Crossfeed and spectral analysis is performed by a very powerful DSP with 2.17 Giga FLOPS (2882 MIPS), providing enough power to work even at a sample rate of 768 kHz. For easier operation, a high-quality Sample Rate converter has been added, switchable to AES or SPDIF input, thus resolving any clocking issues between them. And the latest SteadyClock III technology ensures perfect reduction against interference and stable clocking, whether using internal or external clock.
The operating IPS display is of high resolution and incorporates many unique features not found on other comparable devices, such as 5-band parametric EQs for individual compensation on headphones, quick access Bass/Treble controls, binaural crossfeed function, volume adjustment filter, selectable AD/DA filters, 4 discrete I/O reference levels, automatic reference level setting, auto balanced mode for headphones and more. The display is used not only for control but also for displaying guiding messages and warnings.
